About Metro Detention Women’s Facility:
Upon completion, the Metro Detention Women’s Facility became Tennessee’s FIRST LEED-certified, green detention center. BELL was selected as the WԐ Manager at Risk. This LEED gold, new 256 person housing unit was procured through a proposal process to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office. The housing unit was a stand-alone addition to the overall detention facility; therefore, security during construction was of the utmost concern. BELL worked closely with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office and Corrections Corporation of America, who operated the entire facility, to ensure there was no breach of security at any point throughout construction. The new housing unit was designed to achieve LEED silver certification, however, it received LEED gold certification.
The facility includes sustainable aspects such as a geothermal heat exchanger bore field to help heat and cool the building and a photovoltaic solar panel electrical generation system for lighting and electrical needs. The housing unit was constructed of exterior structural precast concrete panels and cast-in-place interior walls and floor slabs. There were 64 double occupancy cells, which included two (2) ADA cells and two (2) isolation cells, and also 18 group cells, which also included two (2) ADA cells.
Metro Detention Women’s Facility details:
During the time that I worked with Bell & Associates, I was able to observe the great depth of knowledge they have in construction as well as the process of building prisons and jails. Bell & Associates was able to clearly communicate with all parties involved to ensure a smooth process. They were able to complete this project on time and under the budget that was established. I would recommend Bell & Associates WԐ for another project without any hesitation.
